Who is NSUPE’s Vice President?

We asked each of our table officers the same questions and today we’re going to get to know NSUPE’s Vice President, Mona Deveau.

According to the NSUPE Constitution, the Vice President is responsible for assisting the President, stepping into the President role as requested or required, and holding Council Committee meetings.

  1. Where do you work?

    I work at Conway Workshop in a group home for seniors with mental and physical disabilities. 

  2. What is your job title?

    Residential Instructor.

  3. How long have you been a NSUPE member?

    I have been with Conway for 7 years as of March 2020. However, I have been with NSUPE for 3 years. Casuals were not part of NSUPE, when I was hired. 

  4. What do you wish everyone knew about NSUPE?

    I wish members and others knew the support and knowledge that NSUPE provides.

  5. What is your greatest hope for NSUPE?

    My greatest hope for NSUPE is to grow and become stronger as a whole.

  6. What is a little-known fact about you?

    I like to watch extreme sports such as UFC and I participate annually in Mud Hero. This will be my fifth year participating in Mud Hero, which is Canada’s largest obstacle course.

    What do you do in your spare time?

    I like to play scrabble, hike, kayak, garden, and go rough camping (tent).

  7. What is your favorite/least favorite thing about being a table officer?

    My favorite thing about being a table officer is gaining knowledge and sharing ideas. My least favorite thing is speaking at meetings. But I am getting better with it.

  8. What do you hope to achieve in your position as Vice President?

    I hope to achieve more support for all the locals and to help NSUPE grow.

  9. What is your favorite food?

    My favorite foods are Pad Thai and chicken wings, both spicy.

  10. What was your first job?

    My first job was picking berries every summer for a local farm. My whole family did this. 

  11. What advice do you wish someone gave you on your first day as a NSUPE member?

    Advice I would give to new members is the support that they have from the union and how to contact local executive members if they need anything or have questions.

  12. What are you passionate about? (personally/professionally?)

    I am passionate about the environment and cruelty to animals personally and professionally is my job, which is supporting persons with disabilities.

  13. What do you hope to achieve in 2020? (personally/professionally?)

    I hope to create a stronger foundation for Executive Council meetings with respect to others. Specifically, having members not on their phones while in meetings and getting others to speak out on their concerns. Personally is to become more active in the winter and to eat healthier all year.

  14. What scares you

    Peoples’ disrespect for our environment and how they treat others.

  15. Where would you like to travel to and why?

    Everywhere. I enjoy travelling, meeting knew people and learning about different cultures.

    I don’t have any questions I had wished you would of asked.
